Founded by Lee Yong-ik as Bosung College during the final years of the Korean Empire, the university played a significant role in Korea's independence movement and modern nation-building. The main Anam Campus in Seoul's Seongbuk-gu district spans 82 acres and features a distinctive blend of historic and modern architecture, including the iconic Main Building with its Gothic Revival design. Korea University operates 15 colleges with over 80 departments, offering comprehensive programs across humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, medicine, and law. The university is particularly renowned for its business school (KUBS), law school, and engineering programs. With 37,000+ students and 3,200+ faculty members, KU maintains one of Korea's largest and most influential alumni networks, including numerous CEOs of major corporations, politicians, and cultural figures. The annual Korea-Yonsei athletic rivalry, dating back to 1925, is one of the most celebrated university traditions in Korea.
