Ewha Womans University, founded in 1886 by American missionary Mary F. Scranton, is the world's largest women's university and one of South Korea's most prestigious institutions. Originally established as Ewha Haktang with just one student, the university has grown to educate nearly 25,000 women across 11 colleges, 15 graduate schools, and 66 research institutes. The Seoul campus in Sinchon features stunning architecture, including the award-winning Ewha Campus Complex (ECC)—an underground multi-level structure that has become an iconic Seoul landmark. Ewha offers comprehensive programs from humanities and arts to STEM fields, with particular strengths in international studies, women's studies, and pharmaceutical sciences. The university operates the renowned Scranton College, an honors program providing interdisciplinary education in English. With 987 faculty members and strong research output, Ewha maintains high academic standards while nurturing women leaders. The university has produced numerous South Korean women leaders, including the country's first female prime minister, supreme court justices, cabinet ministers, CEOs, and prominent figures in law, medicine, and the arts. International students benefit from the Ewha PEACE Buddies program, which pairs incoming students with Korean mentors for cultural adjustment support. The university offers exchange partnerships with 500+ institutions worldwide and provides comprehensive Korean language programs. Ewha's unique identity as a women's university creates a supportive environment focused on women's empowerment and leadership development.
